How does Impaq approach irregularities during a test or exam?

Impaq has a responsibility to the assessment body and to the integrity of the SBA (site-based assessments) and as such, the Impaq Irregularity Committee deals with suspected irregularities. The committee is dedicated to ensuring fairness and maintaining academic integrity.

If an irregularity is identified during the marking process, this is sent to the relevant subject specialists to moderate the question paper. Any substantiating information and evidence are then submitted to the committee for internal investigation. There will be no consultation during the investigation process. The Irregularity Committee’s decision is final. The guardian(s) will be informed of the outcome of the committee’s decision once the decision has been made. Affected parties are invited to contact Impaq should they require clarification on the outcome.

What constitutes an irregularity?
Any point where the rules and regulations for tests and exams are not followed can be considered an irregularity. This includes, but is not limited to:
  1. Copying work from another learner or learners copying from each other;
  2. The use of AI tools;
  3. Failure to write the test on the exact date and time as per the timetable;
  4. Assistance from a third party such as a tutor, invigilator, parent or any other party;
  5. Having access to notes, a cellphone, resources or anything else during the test period.
Confirmed irregularities may be subject to legal action and/or the reporting of the suspected invigilator(s) to the relevant authorities as described by (but not limited to) the National Protocol for Assessments and the Regulations pertaining to the conduct, administration and management of the National Senior Certificate Examination (relevant to learners in Grades R to 12).
