Understanding End of Phase assessments

Understanding End of Phase assessments

The BELA Act states that Grade 3, 6 and 9 learners must be assessed by a competent assessor (qualified SACE-registered teacher or a SAQA-accredited assessor).

Although there are no further guidelines within the Act, Impaq recommends using our assessments and examination papers for this purpose, as they are compiled and moderated by SACE-registered teachers. In discussions with the DBE, it was suggested that the portfolio of a Grade 3 be assessed by a competent assessor and that the examinations for Grades 6 and 9 be written under strict examination conditions (no guidelines are provided in terms of who the invigilator should be) and marked by a competent assessor.

You are welcome to contact Impaq for information on SACE-registered teachers and SAQA-accredited assessors in your area.
