Who is involved in assessing Impaq learners?

Different people help assess your child’s work. Here’s who they are and what you need to do.

Competent Assessor

A SACE-registered teacher or SAQA-accredited assessor.
  1. Who: Grades 3, 6 and 9
  2. When: At the end of a phase
  3. What: Assessment of Grade 3s and oversee and mark the examination for Grades 6 and 9 at the end of the year.
  4. Why: In line with the BELA Act
  5. Submission: None.
Parents appoint a competent assessor at the end of a phase to assess learners, using the assessments and final year assessments on OLP. The assessor signs off on the completed assessments. Parents keep the proof of this for submission to their Provincial Department of Education.

Approved Assessor

A SACE-registered teacher with experience in the relevant subject, approved by Impaq annually.
  1. Who: Grades 10 to 12
  2. When: Submission dates per subject on the assessment screen
  3. What: Assess Orals for languages and PATs for specific subjects as indicated on the Subject Requirements.
  4. Why: SACAI regulation
  5. Submission: This differs per task and component. Refer to the instructions for the relevant task and submit the required documents via OLP.
Parents book an Impaq assessment event on www.optimiplus.com or appoint an approved assessor who will have access to the relevant components as specified in the instructions for the task, which can be found on OLP.

Invigilator

A computer-literate person over the age of 18 years who is not a family member of the learner, who has successfully completed the SACAI-certified training for invigilators. The certification is valid for a period of 3 years.
  1. Who: Grades 10 to 12.
  2. When: All tests and examinations, including some tasks and Grade 12 Tourism PAT.
  3. What: Download, oversee the assessment completion, and upload to OLP whilst following all rules and regulations for tests and examinations.
  4. Why: SACAI regulation and integrity protection of the SBA.
  5. Submission: Uploaded to OLP within the specified time frame.
Parents appoint an invigilator by informing Impaq of their details. If the invigilator is a SACAI-certified invigilator, the person will be linked to the learner’s profile. If not, they must first complete the SACAI training and can then be linked. All tutor business owners and their staff acting as invigilators must complete the training to qualify to be linked.

Reader & Scribe

A person who successfully completed the relevant training and has a valid certificate. They may not act in this regard for the learner they tutor, and may not be a family member. Qualification is valid for 2 years at a time; thereafter, the course must be repeated.
  1. Who: Grades 4 to 12.
  2. When: All formal assessment tasks.
  3. What: Fulfil their duties in line with the approval for the learner. No additional assistance beyond this may be given.
